Description:
Serial #1375, .22 LR, 25? barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves near the muzzle. This rifle was converted from an 1896 dated Lee-Enfield Mk. I by Sparkbrook and has retained 85-90% of the arsenal re-applied blue finish that has spots of mild silvering along the hard edges, projections, and the bearing surfaces of the receiver and matching numbered bolt. The front sight protectors and nosecap have most of a World War II era black Suncorite finish that has flaking throughout and the rifle retains the original volley sights while the walnut stock, matching numbered forend, and short handguard have an added varnish finish that has scattered minor handling marks and small blemishes throughout while the brass buttplate has turned to a mild yellow-ochre patina. The rifle has a ?.22? stamped magazine housing (no spring or follower) and the cut-off has been removed. These rifles were made from Lee-Metford and Lee-Enfield rifles that had surpassed their service lives and were converted to rimfire trainers that closely matched the length and weight of the S.M.L.E. They are quite seldom seen nowadays and this example is in fine condition overall. Antique
