Description:

Identified Merrill’s Horse 2nd Missouri Cavalry Colt 1860 revolver. Made in 1862. Very historic gun belonging to Private Thomas J Clamands. This gun is stamped on the trigger guard “T. J. Clamands. CoE 2nd Mo. V.V.C. War of 61” Merrill’s Horse or formally known as the 2nd Missouri Volunteer Cavalry, was well known due Captain Lewis Merrill who required his troop to be very formal and wear a uniform that featured a tunic with a horse head panel. The Merrill’s Horse Cavalry had the difficult job of going to battle with the confederate Guerrilla units. Later in the war they faced more conventional battles in Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. This gun was well taken care of. It has a smooth brown patina throughout. About 50% of the cylinder scene remains. This is a 4 screw Army which is a desirable early feature. Gun functions perfectly. This gun comes with the muster rolls for private Clamands as well as the company history. Very neat historical Civil War identified piece!
