Description:

Colt 1861 U.S. Navy Conversion. Gun has U.S.N. on the bottom of the butt and U.S. Naval Inspector initials under the barrel. R.W.M. and Anchor. These were a group of percussion revolvers returned to Colt for conversion. The frame is stamped with both the 1871/72 patent dates and the original Colt patents as well. In Bauce McDowells book, Colt Conversions and Other Percussion Revolvers, on page 261 he pictures the consecutive numbered conversion to this revolver. All numbers match except the cylinder which is correctly renumbered by Colt to match at the time of conversion. Bore is very good and the action works perfectly. The gun has an even patina and markings are all excellent. The grips are very good with 93-95% original varnish. This is a fine example of a Colt U.S. Martial 1861 Navy centerfire conversion.
