Description:
The 81 was an underrated legend The first successful production 45-70 in the US. Marlin buffs - if you love the old large frame 81s - here is a super nice all original very high condition example ( 11XXX) that is getting near impossible to find today. With the exception of two bright spots that look like chemical stains ( not pits or even brown) the finish would be about an honest 95%+. The pictures pretty much tell the story. The bore is bright strong and sharp showing no wear pits or frosting (a good 9++). Special order Globe flip duplex front with about ALL of the ORIGINAL gold! A clean standard factory rear sight . A medium range staff vernier tang sight that is SUPER CLEAN. There is still some pretty good case left. The furniture is plain but very clean with few handling marks. The hand guard is NOT cracked as they unusually are - but- does show some varnish wear. The action is crisp and snappy as if it were new. I have owned 13 81s and this one is one of the two I was going to keep. I own two extremely nice 81s and have held them out for many years - but it is time they have a new Marlin lover owner.
