Description:
Thieme & Schlegelmilch "Nimrod" 16 Gauge SxS Shotgun
100% COVERAGE ENGRAVING

General Specs: German, Early 1930's, 16 Gauge, 6lbs 10oz, Side by Side
Serial Number: 34286

Thieme & Schlegelmilch has been in the firearms business since the 1800's and have built some extraordinary firearms.  They have a unique, patented, tapered step in the action flats that mates with a step in the barrel flats that takes the stress off of the hinge pin and other locking mechanisms so the gun literally never shoots loose.  This gun is a late 1920's gun and is tight as new, so it works, and works well.  As with all things German, this box lock highbred with sideplates is overly built, with no fewer than 7 locking mechanisms to lock the barrels to the action; double underlug bolts (2), Greener cross bolt (1), double lugs penetrating through the bottom of the action (2), sideclips (1), and the stepped action to make 7 locks.  These barrels are secured from moving fore and aft, and side to side, and up or down in a way unlike any other shotgun I have ever seen.  Also ingenious, when you remove the sideplates, there is a small device stored in a cavity in the wood that is a mainspring clip that allows you to remove the main spring, hammers, and sears with only a screw driver.  SEE PHOTOS.  The rest of the gun is splendid, with deep relief game scene engraving covering the entire receiver and trigger guard, nice wood with 28 line per inch checkering, drop points, perfect wood to metal fit, top end EXCELSIOR STEEL barrels with double ivory beads and 99% factory blue and mirror bores, just gorgeous.  Balanced perfectly on the hinge pin and weighing 6 pounds 10 ounces, it handles dynamically between the hands and will make someone a very nice clays or upland gun.
