Description:
E.F. Flues of Ithaca Over & Under 20 Gauge Shotgun - SALE PRICE

Prototype - 1920's - RARE FIND!

General Specs: EF Flues Ithaca, Year 1920's, 20 Gauge, 7lbs 6oz, O/U
Serial Number: 41

Emil Flues was a gunmaker, inventor, and patent holder of firearms. He was an outside contractor with Ithaca Gun Co., later having his own shop in Buffalo, NY. The Ithaca Flues Model double shotgun was his name sake and Ithaca’s most successful shotgun, selling over 230,000 before the NID came into production. This is a most interesting gun in so many ways. First, it had to be one of America's first over/under guns. The Browning Superposed and Remington 32 are known to be the earliest production O/U's, not coming to market until the 1930's. With RUDOLPH KORNBRATH deep relief engraving, long 30", solid rib, twenty gauge barrels with no center rib, selective single trigger, this is a collector/shooter's dream.

For the advanced collector interested in putting a one of a kind gun in their collection, this is a very unique find. For the vintage Sporting Clays shooter, you will have to convince the side by side guys this is truly worthy to be rolled out along side the other classics. At 7lbs. 6oz. it is not a lightweight, but balances dead on the hinge pin for a lively feel in hand. The weight will absorb the recoil of any high volume shooting you may encounter as well.

Other

Engraved barrel wedge at breech, super strong ejectors, barrels tight on breech face and hinge pin, very shallow from top to bottom, a very cool set of barrels. The action is much shallower than the Superposed or Remington action, with barrels lugs protruding through the bottom of the frame for lateral stability, and a Kirsten style cross bolt lock up, it seems like a very well thought out action. The engraving is deeply carved floral and vine, with an awesome English Setter on the left side, and quail in flight on the right, with full coverage scroll balancing out the work.    The wood is European walnut, with checkered side panels, excellent checkering, good wood to metal fit, no cracks or splits, excellent finish, ready to go this season.
