Looks to have been a flintlock and later converted to percussion. Most likely the lock is not the original to this rifle and it has a sloppy hammer and the side screw is missing the escutcheon and consequently is very loose. The metal is lightly rust pitted and the wood has a burned out area behind the nipple, as well as the area around the left side lock screw escutcheon. Certainly not some high end collectors piece, but it is a genuine 1850s-1860 homesteaders hunting rifle that came out of Southern Utah. Great item for over the fireplace and displayed with a shot flask and powder horn. About Good, as described. $245. SOLD Antique: Yes |
