Perhaps the only short-coming of John M. Browning's design was the single-action-only trigger with no decocking mechanism. That left the shooter either needing to carry "cocked and locked" or to drop the hammer carefully, so as to not accidentally discharge, and then cock before firing (we do NOT recommend doing this with a live round in the chamber, by the way). Double action was not a perfect solution either--heavy trigger pulls led to poor accuracy, due to shooter fatigue. Recognizing that neither was ideal, Para came up with a Light Double Action (LDA) mechanism. Shooters can now carry loaded with a hammer down, but don't have to contend with a heavy pull. While it certainly takes some getting used-to, it is smooth and light, while at the same time providing for a long and deliberate pull to prevent accidental discharge.
