Description:
Serial #M39553, .303 British, 25” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has traces of freckling within the grooves. This is a 1944 dated, “M/47C” marked rifle that has the sniper “TR” surcharge added to the wrist socket markings (“T” on left sidewall of receiver too) and retains 92-95% of a black Suncorite finish that has flaked to the underlying gray metal along the exposed edges and projections. The non-matching numbered bolt has been cleaned to bright gray and has mild freckling present on the handle. Staked scope pads have been installed on the receiver and match the condition of the rest of the rifle. The non-original walnut buttstock never had a cheek-piece installed and has a handful of minor impact marks scattered about the re-applied oil finish which is repeated on the forend and handguard. No optics are included. The rifle is equipped with a single unnumbered, Suncorite finished magazine and is a nice example of a No. 4 Sniper that is in about very good overall condition. {Ref. “The Lee-Enfield-A Century of Lee-Metford & Lee-Enfield Rifles & Carbines” by Ian Skennerton; 2007} FFL or C&R
