Description:
This is a neat sword that has an overall length of 36 3/4" with a factory-made blade that measures 26 7/8" to a brass habaki. The steel has been rather thoroughly polished post-war and now has a bright, brushed finish that has now obscured the temper line and any other markings that may have once been on the blade. The hilt has typical late war iron mounts including a plain oval tsuba and pebble finished, rounded kashira while the lain fuchi has a flaked wartime coat of mustard yellow military paint remaining. The cloth tape wrap is intact but needs to be rewound properly and the military menuki are currently not visible through the wrapping. The saya has a metal throat (also with the Japanese military paint finish) and typical late war mounts with single ashi/hanger band loosely fit over a period non-regulation woven rattan cover which was apparently added during the period of use. This is a great looking G.I. bring-back that would make a nice decorative accent for a collection of Pacific War memorabilia and is in very good overall condition. {Ref.
