Description:
For sale is a Steyr-Mannlicher M.95 (model 1903 Bulgarian contract) 'stutzen' or short rifle, manufactured by Österreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft, Steyr (Austrian Weapons Manufacturing Co., Steyr). The 1903 date on the outside of the reciever rail indicates that it was manufactured by Steyr during the first year of contracted production for Bulgaria by Austria-Hungary. This repeating 'straight-pull' bolt action rifle has an integral en-bloc clip-loaded box magazine of five rounds. All serial numbers match. "M.95" is barely visible on the reciever bridge. The rifle was later converted and rechambered to fire the 8×56mmR M.30 "S"-Patrone cartridge after Bulgaria's official adoption of the caliber in 1934. The recalibrated long leaf rear sight and electropenciled serial number on the bolt also indicate 1930's Bulgarian arsenal refurbishing and reconstruction (i.e. the original long rifle was cut short). During the conversion, the additional swivels under the buttstock and the front band, were removed and replaced with a small washer in front and a wooden plug in the buttstock. However, unlike most Bulgarian rifle bolts, there is no gas escape hole on top. Import mark on muzzle reads "M.95/34 AUSTRIA 8×56 R", and "C.A.I. ST. ALB. VT." indicating post-1986 import by Century Arms International. For its age the rifling well defined and the bore is very good condition. Please ask for additional pictures.
