Description:
This very early Howa-manufactured Mark V was researched through the Weatherby Custom Shop.  The 24" ported barrel is correct for the general time period, however the porting wasn't offered when this particular gun was built according to serial number records.  After observing photos of the porting, a representative of the Custom Shop suggested that it likely was sent back to Weatherby for the porting work but due to the age, no records are available to confirm that fact.  The bluing on the action is flawless, but there are some scratches on the barrel in the area of the porting that are visible in the photos.  The stock has numerous light dents and pressure marks that do not break the finish and one rather noticeable dent and chip on the left bottom of the stock directly behind the maple spacer separating the rosewood tip from the stock.  There is a longitudinal split at the top of the wrist immediately behind the action.  The optic is a state of the art Kahles Helia CL 3-9 x 42 mm with the "Multi-Zero" feature, so this package has been updated to take advantage of optical technology gains in the 40-plus years since this rifle was manufactured.  All in all this is one very fine rifle with an exceptional scope - and a great value offered at an attractive price.
