Description:
SN 5461 with bright bore converted to single shot and cut back with a hole through the barrel at the muzzle.. This rifle is a part of a group that we purchased years ago in Quebec. The unique history is as follows. In 1914 71/84 Mausers were purchased from Bannerman's to arm the Quebec City Home Guard. Following the 1st war the majority of the full size rifles were turned over to the Quebec Reg Zouave (basically the Catholic Church Quebec Guard). The majority remained as full rifles and were purchased in the 1980's by a partnership including our firm. Approx 10 years ago we purchased the cutdown pieces from another source. The piece as offered was cut down to fit the stature of many of the members of the Regiment Zouave. The mag lifter was removed and the rifles were altered to shoot blanks ONLY. All of the pieces were marked QHG and issue or rack numbered, as is this piece. All were fitted with leather slings. A unique piece of firearms history. The WWI home guard fever in part of Canada and later by a church organization modeled on the Vatican Swiss guard. We have a small lot of these pieces that are basically all in the same configuration and condition. Antique
