Description:
NSN, .52 Caliber, 32" round barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some freckling within the grooves. This is a well made rifle that has a smooth and mellow plum-brown patina and twist pattern along the barrel with a sporting front bead and two leaf flip-up rear sight. The breech and tang have light floral scrollwork engraving which repeats on the "LOTT" marked lock and hammer as well as an additional large sunburst engraved on the top of the breech. There is a series of shallow peen marks along the sides of the barrel and a small GWL stamp on the left side flat just ahead of the bolster. The lock is tight and fully functional with a fairly recent replacement nipple installed and some minor pitting and metal erosion around the edges of the hammer face. The nicely figured half-length walnut stock has an old added varnish over scattered small handling marks and bruises and is fastened by a single wedge with plain German silver escutcheons. There is an ornately engraved triggerguard that has an overall dark gray patina with rosette finial and tight floral scroll along the exterior of the bow. The checkering is still strong and the buttstock has some further light handling marks and blemishes including a small with-the-grain crack at the rear of the lockplate. The gun comes with a very nice replacement brass-tipped wooden ramrod held by two plain thimbles and a ridged tail-pipe. This is a handsome and well made gun with a tight and fully functional lock.
