Where nickel is missing, it is gun metal gray and blends so gun appears as if it still nickel with most of this finish loss on area of cylinder and in front of cylinder on frame. Grips are excellent original finish walnut. Bore is strong and clean. This is the early model with post front sight and lanyard ring. Serial number is inside frame (15187) It is chambered for the 44-40 but caliber markings, which would have been on the grips on this early model, are worn off. Really a stunning revolver made popular by Frank James. The rig is a Merwin & Bray double loop (some minor repairs on back) with a military style belt with six hand sewn cartridge loops done right after the advent of cartridges from cap and ball. Great 1870's western gun and rig. Antique pre 1880 SOLD Antique: Yes |
