Description:
Civil War Remington New Model Navy Revolver - USN Martial  - Cal. 36 - 7 1/2" Bbl. - SN 27314 (1863-1864).  Bore is near mint - bright and shiny with sharp rifling - crisp action with perfect timing and lock-up.  Metal is excellent with no rust, pits, or corrosion and sharp markings with naval  anchor mark on barrel - perferct nipples on cylinder and clear inspector. marks on barrel, frame, cylinder, and guard.  Metal has drifted off to a mostly brown patina with some blue mixng to brown. Walnut grips retain about 75% finish with scattered dings and scuffs but good fit to frame and no cracks, chips, or splits. The New Model Navy  evolved from the 1861 or "Old Model" Navy and started at about 23,000 serial range.  The Navy took around 4300 of these but did not stamp them until 1866 when their inventory was taken up, inspected, stamped with the anchor, and re-issued.  This Navy has a 27314 SN on the frame but SN on barrel is "72314", an obvious factory error in stamping the first 2 digits of serial number on the barrel  due to the rush to produce these revolvers for the war.  All factory inspector markings are proper on the barrel, frame, cylinder, and guard.  This is a very nice example of a very scarce and desirable  wartime production Remington Navy, fully functional and  in VG + to near Fine condition overall and will make a great addition  to a CW collection
