Description:
Reduced to below cost!!!!! McElroy Confederate Relic Short Sword. Classic pattern of a Confederate short artillery sword. Confederate arsenal produced short sword patterned after the U.S. Government made  model 1832 U.S. artillery short sword. There are several differences between the Confederate swords and the Union made swords. The blade on the Confederate sword has no fuller groove and the Federal swords had three on each side. The grip on the Federal made sword had rivets holding the blade in place and the Confederate made sword was peened at the top of the pommel just like this sword. This is a beautiful and classic example of Confederate workmanship. The sword length is 24 inches total. The blade is 18.5 inches.  Blade has pitting from ground action.  Could be a dug sword or an early battlefield pick up. Do not know for sure.  Metal is stable and not rusting. The brass that composes the handle is in wonderful shape and has a fantastic copper color to the metal. The handle on this one  reveals where it was made. The handle has tightly spaced grip ridges in the brass. These are the traits of manufacture that are attributed to being manufactured at the famous Macon, Georgia firm of William J. McElroy. This pattern of sword is illustrated on page 9 of the book "Collecting the Confederacy" by Shannon Pritchard.  This sword is unmarked but is a McElroy product and is 100% Confederate in manufacture.  Excellent relic Confederate Sword at an affordable price. Comes with a letter of authenticity from the famous Shiloh Relics where I purchased the sword from. Source material and letter of authenticity credit to Shiloh Relics.
