A very rare gun as only approx 750 were made between 1858-1861 (most had the 8” barrel) with good side address and some thin blue still evident and faint traces elsewhere on the very crisp and fine metal. The forest motif cylinder scene is near excellent and is about the best I’ve ever seen! If it wasn’t the fact that no one has ever made a correct roll die for a gun as rare as an Allen Navy, I’d suspect this was a reroll…it is that crisp and sharp. But to the best of MY knowledge, there is no one who could (or would) attempt to duplicate this scene; it’s not even profitable enough to reroll Colt scenes, and there were well over 250000 Colts made with the Naval battle scene. These Allen&Wheelock Navys were never sold directly to the government, but they are still considered Civil War “secondary martials”. This one is also fitted with a pair of handsome bone grips which appear to have shrunk or worn slightly undersize, but since they ONLY fit this Model, they are almost 100% sure to be originals to this revolver.
