Description:
#2409 Allen & Thurber standard size pepperbox, 4” six-shot bbl group, 31caliber, dated 1845. This is the typical and most popular “California Gold Rush” style revolver, being far more prolific than the newly developed Colt revolvers which were much more expensive and hard to get. For those who afford ANY “repeater”, the Allen pepperboxes were the most commonly seen and most commonly used multi-shot handguns made during the late 1840s and early 1850s. This is a decent overall example with just some scattered light to moderate pitting, most being on the barrel group. Nice original grips and good engraving and markings. Nothing super-exotic, but simply a good representative handgun of the California 1849 Gold Rush. VG. $545
