Description:
This interesting bayonet is intended to firt the .75 caliber model F East India Company percussion musket of the 1840's. The spec from this gun were adopted by the British as a P1842 musket. those were carried by the Sepoy Infantry in the Sikh Wars, of 1845/6 and 1848/9 and later in the great Sepoy Rebellion (Indian Mutiny of 1857-58). The Sanskrit inscription on the socket reads "Helper of Lord Goraknath, we have not translated blade markings. This was a sighting notch in the muzzle ring collar as well as a hole for Lovell's catch. Socket is 3 inches long with inside diameter just over an inch. Blade is 16 inches long. Piece has a dark patina with blade partly cleaned. Sight notch shows minor damage. A very exotic Nepalese bayonet.
