Description:
NSN, 20 gauge, 29? barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some dark spots of freckling towards the breech. This is a fine example of the No. 2 Rolling Block Shotgun which were assembled with left-over military rifle parts in the late 1880s to early 1890s. The barrel retains 90-92% of the original blue finish which is turning to a mellow plum-brown color on the balance. The frame has a mostly freckled gray patina but does exhibit faint traces of the original color case-hardening here and there (mostly on the left side). The breechblock and hammer have about 40-50% of the original bright fire blue remaining with fading along the high and projecting edges. The walnut forend and military rifle buttstock (with correct metal buttplate and filled sling swivel inletting) are in fine shape with an excellent added oil finish over minor handling marks and small surface blemishes. This is a very nice example of a ?parts clean-up? Remington Rolling Block and would make a great addition to a collection. Antique
