Description:
NSN, .69 caliber, 38? barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This is an interesting musket, built along both French and American lines, but devoid of any identifying markings, proofs, or stamps. There is a small a"AS" on the back of the lock. The metal fixtures and furniture of this well-built musket have been cleaned to a uniform armory bright finish that has scattered spots of dark freckling throughout, heaviest along the top radius of the barrel towards the muzzle. There is some further mild pinprick pitting surrounding the touch-hole and the brass pan has an overall dark ochre-brown tarnish with traces of verdigris as well. The walnut stock has a dark oil finish with scattered minor handling marks and blemishes throughout as well as a single shallow depression on the top of the short comb. The mechanism is fully functional but the mainspring does not have a great deal of tension and the hammer tumbler has some wiggle. An old iron ramrod with button tip is included. This is a very nice flintlock musket and would make a handsome decorative accent for a gunroom or study. Antique
