Description:
NSN, .577/.450 Martini, 33? barrel with a very good bore that has mild freckling within the grooves. This is an 1875 dated, Enfield-made rifle that has an overall mellow plum-brown patina with mottled gray fading at the muzzle as well as well as on some of the projecting edges and surfaces. The frame markings are crisp and clear, as is the small ?2? second class rating stamp on the bottom edge of the right side of the frame and to the left of the knox form at the breech. Additional deeply struck unit stamps are present on the right of the rear sight: ?NS/NEP? (Native Service Nepal). The lever locks up tightly and the mechanism is fully functional. The exterior of the trigger guard bow has extensive, neatly inscribed Nepalese markings but the original British acceptance and WD markings are also still fully legible. The walnut forend and buttstock are in fine shape with scattered minor handling marks and small blemishes marring the otherwise fine dark brown added military oil finish. The stamps on the right side of the butt are still quite crisp: ?11/94?, ?ALLAHABAD/ARSENAL?, ?2? (2nd Class). The rifle comes with both an original iron ramrod and a flaked but still supple and fully serviceable dark brown leather sling in fine condition. This is a really handsome and rare 2nd Class marked Martini-Henry that was relegated to service with native troops during its service life and remains in very good plus-fine condition overall.
