Description:
Serial #D527, .577/.450 Martini, 33” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some very minor freckling within the grooves. This rifle has an 1887 dated frame and has about 40% of an arsenal re-applied blue remaining with the balance turned to lightly mottled plum-brown color mixing with a dark gray patina. There is dark brown freckling on the lever, trigger guard, and forend tang while the barrel bands, as well as scattered spots of the exposed barrel, have some light pitting with a predominantly plum-brown patina. The walnut buttstock and forend are arsenal refinished to about very good condition with a thick added oil finish over numerous minor handling marks and blemishes. There is a small rectangular repair on the left side of the forend where it meets the frame as well as a few with-the-grain cracks running back along the wrist. Large rack or issue numbers have been stamped onto the left side of the butt: “0/301”, as well as a partially legible stenciled marking that appears to be the Roman numeral “CLVII” (157). The ramrod is numbered to a different gun, the action is tight and functions flawlessly, and an original white washed buff leather sling in very good, still serviceable condition is included. This is still a very nice and desirable Long Lever Martini-Henry overall and would make an attractive addition to any collection. Antique
