Description:
Serial #9514, .50 caliber, 20? part round/part octagon barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a truly handsome carbine that retains 95-97% of the original blue on the barrel with some mild freckling and fading at the muzzle as well as some minor discoloration surrounding the crisp ?G.W.S.? cartouche on the left flat of the breech. The frame retains 92-95% of the original color case-hardening that has darkened slightly over time but is still attractive and bright, as is the blue on the hammer and lever pivot. Some spots of dark freckling are present on the sling bar and ring while the walnut stock, which has crisp cartouches on the left side of the wrist, exhibits only some minor handling marks and blemishes scattered throughout. The buttplate has some minor plum-brown freckling that mixes with dark gray on the balance. This is a little-used Cavalry Maynard with an absolutely pristine bore and rates excellent condition overall. Antique
