Description:
All Brass 36LB yacht cannon 17" long with a 1 3/8" bore. The barrel and mounting bracket are cast as one unit. Attached is a 7" all brass mounting pin which is threaded to take a mounting or securing bolt. The pin is 2" diameter. The pin is secured to the cannon by an all bass bolt with a 1 1/2" bras snut on the left side and a false nut head on the right. Attached to the mounting pin is a simple but effective elevator. The elevator wheel rotates and elevates or lowers the barrel to the desired position . This piece appears to be designed to take a small black powder charge fired through the touch hole with either fuse or priming powder. There are no markings or proofs whatsoever on this piece. We have been told that this yacht cannon came out of the Marblehead area of Mass. We have no background information other than that. We are selling this piece as an antique collector's cannon and not as a shooting item. If the intention of the purchaser is to fire the piece then we highly recommend that the piece be tested and examined by a licensed gunsmith to determine the safe charge and shooting procedures.
