It is very similar to the Allen & Thurber whaling gun that is on Pg 70 # 5A-097.3 and also the C.C. Brand Whaling gun on pg 757 # 18-001 of the 9th edition of Flayderman's. It has a massive 39 1/2" barrel (longer then most harpoon guns of this period with the average barrel length approx. 22"). The bore is approx 1"- 6ga. This piece weighs 17 1/2 lbs. and remains in its original "in the white" finish. This piece has both a steel wrist and forearm. This has the No 10 side cock action. The hammer is original with the original hammer spur showing an old weld repair. Attached is the original brass tipped ramrod. The stock is checkered American walnut with steel butt. The butt plate shows 2 holes that were most likely put there to tie a rope through in case the gun went overboard. A rare & unique piece in unusually great condition for its age and purpose.
