Description:
Serial #62564, 8mm Mauser, 24" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a late war rifle which has 97-98% of the original blue finish that has silvered slightly at the muzzle as well as along a few of the projecting edges and on the handle and bearing surfaces of the 5050f numbered bolt. The rifle has a matching numbered barrel with "(eagle)/135" Waffenamt proof at the breech and a few spots of mild pinprick pitting on the left side of the tangent rear sight. The two-piece turret mounts are original wartime examples with a thin layer of solder visible along the bottom seams where they contact the receiver ring and bridge and house a "cad" coded scope (Karl Kahles, Wien) with 717/2 on the underside of the body just ahead of the forward ring. The scope is outfitted with a removable sheet steel glare shield while the optics are slightly cloudy but still serviceable with an intact standard German military post and lines reticle. The scope rings are original wartime production with a strong helical machine pattern visible on both front and rear mounts. The rifle has a replacement Kriegsmodell laminated stock that is devoid of markings and has neither a bolt disassembly disk nor cleaning rod channel (although a standard Kar.98 nosecap is installed). The wood has a few small handling marks and small blemishes scattered through the otherwise excellent original military oil finish and a correct checkered cup style buttplate (not equipped with a bolt disassembly slot) is installed. An unmarked but period Kar.98k brown leather sling is installed that has some minor crazing and flaking at the flex points but is otherwise still fully serviceable. This is a great looking late-war Kar.98k high turret sniper, in a proper configuration, that would not look out of place in any advanced World War II collection and is in fine-near excellent overall condition.
