Description:
#25410, R. B. Rodda & Co. Calcutta: A 11.2 x 72 Schuler Mauser Made by August Schuler in 1928 for the R. B. Rodda Company, 25 1/2" Krupp Stahl barrel that is 1/2 round & 1/2 octagon with a full length integral rib that is machine matted full length, 1 standing & 2 folding rear sights, Sling eye on the barrel, Fold over locking sight protector, Forend tiedown screw, The action and barrel carry the same serial number, The stock is serial numbered in the barrel channel, Double set triggers, Bolt safety, Button release non-hinged floorplate, Sporter stock, Point pattern checkering with a border on the grip only, European style cheekpiece, 14 1/4" LOP over the original Silvers pad, 9 lbs. even, The receiver ring matted with light Germanic border engraving, The floorplate and trigger guard has 5% coverage, The original blue on all metal remains at 75-80%, The stock is original and overall finish is 80%, The inletting inside is very good, The strong news on this piece is the bore and chamber are absolutely like new, It is cased in the original leather cornered canvas full length case with the original trade label and a cleaning rod that I am sure is ebony. The story goes; it arrived on these shores via a Missionary and he used it to control Tigers that were not welcome on his grounds. Not quite but close; this is dreams of tigers and ships and palaces, fine spices and women and silk. This piece remains totally original and laid around a lot more than it was shot as the bore is almost as new. Here is a classic Suhl Mauser from the Golden Era of German gunmaking in a big bore cartridge and a known maker to go with it. This big guy will do what a .458 Winchester is known for when it is properly loaded. The 11.2 x 72 Schuler is a powerful round that drives 400 grain bullets right at 2400 fps with nearly 5000 foot pounds of energy.
