Description:
Winchester Model 70 Super Express in 458 Win Mag.

Made in New Haven Connecticut, USA.  This is one of the last Winchesters built in the New Haven plant before it was closed in 2006.  Current Winchester Model 70's are produced in Portugal and imported under license by Browning and FN.

The rifle has the famous Controlled Round Feed with a claw extractor and blade ejector for positive feeding and ejection even in the tightest situaions.  It has good open sights that lock positively in position as well as being drilled and tapped for scope mounts.  The rifle apprears unfired save for the factory test firing.  The bolt face is clean and still clearly shows the machining marks.  The metal is clean and shiny with dark deep blue.  The wood is ding and scratch free.  The pictures capture most of the gun in detail.  I would rate the wood as 98%.

There is a mark where the scope bases were mounted but its hard to find as you can see from the pictures.  The only blemish is on the bolt just forward of the handle where the serial number is engraved.  It appears that the engraving pen got away from the tech and marked up the area.  It is not something you see but if you look for it its there.  It could be polished out but I rather leave the gun in original condition for the new owner to customize.  The rest  of the metal I would rate at 98%.

This is a beautiful rifle and you will not be dissapointed.  It mounts nicely and is good for anyhting that walks this earth.  The modern 458 can be loaded to equal the 458 Lott without the pressure problems that plagued it in the past.  Really there is no need to rechamber anything to Lott with the new powders and ammo we have available now.
