Description:
NSN, 1 1/4" bore at the muzzle, 14 1/2" trumpet-flared barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This is a neat blunderbuss made by William Trulock of Dublin and is so marked on the lockplate. The barrel has a fairly bright pewter gray patina with small patches of mild pinprick pitting along its length and a faint but legible "DUBLIN" mark on the breech. The lock has an identical patina also with small spots of mild pitting and freckling but the markings and spartan edge decorations are crisper and clearer. The brass fittings likewise have a pale yellow-ochre patina with some washed out engraving on the acorn finial of the trigger guard. The pin-fastened walnut stock has been lightly sanded with a newer oil finish added and exhibits a few stable hairline cracks at the tip of the forend and another on the underside that runs from the tip of the acorn to the base of the ramrod channel. The butt is hollow and appears to have been made that way originally with a single with-the-grain crack on the left side where the comb meets the wrist (it should be pointed out that it does not travel all the way through and the join is still one continuous piece). A small number (DU 1932) is stamped into the wood along the comb and is partially repeated on the barrel about midway down. This could possibly be an Irish registration number or inventory number. The mechanism is fully functional and the original brass-tipped ramrod is included. This is a really neat and unusual Irish gun and is in very good plus condition. Antique
