Description:
Fabulous Pre 64 Winchester 70 "transition" period rifle in the powerful .375 H&H Magnum! In outstanding condition with both metal and wood rating around 98- 99%. Serial # is 77xxx mfg. 1948. This rifle has the unique "clover leaf" tang and "clam shell" safety appointed to only a relative few rifles, especially in this caliber. Additionally, this rifle was factory issued with the Lyman 48 receiver sight and has NO HOLES DRILLED in barrel for a rear sight provision! Combined with the "transition" features already mentioned, this is indeed a very rare rifle in this particular configuration. 1948 was shortly after Lyman finally started scalloping their sight bases to conform to stocks, so no notch cut-out was required in this wood. Barrel length is 25" with excellent bore. Factory swivels. Low comb stock with NO CRACKS to factory steel plate. It would be nearly impossible to upgrade on this rifle.
