Description:
SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester rifle. 44-40 caliber. Nice bore. Octagon barrel. Tight as new.
A very nice and crisp 1873 Winchester rifle. S/N 180527 and MFG in 1885. Fairly early 3rd model. Very sought after 44-40 caliber. Has the standard 24" octagon barrel. The bore is very good with strong rifling through out. Just some minor light roughness and frosting from black powder use but NO big pits or craters and NO rings or bulges. It shoots just fine. The mechanics are like new. Very crisp and tight gun with excellent carrier and lever springs. Smooth as silk. It feed, fires and ejects perfectly. Hammer notches are excellent. No back out primers or bulged cases. This gun is like new mechanically. The original dust cover is still fairly tight and retracts with the lever throw.. The metal is a smooth plumb brown patina with just traces of blue in the protected areas around the side plates. Just the way you love to find these. NO pitting anywhere on this one and has never been cleaned on or messed with. Very nice metal here. The screw heads are all still sharp and not all burred up. Original period front and rear sights. The rear sight elevator is a modern replacement only. The front sight has a brass blade instead of the silver blade so it could be a very old replacement but is absolutely a period blade. The markings are all excellent. The wood is good to very good. The forearm has a couple of gouges on the left side as you can see in the photo. One small one on the right. They are very old and smooth to the touch.. NO cracks or splits and fits tight to the metal. The butt stock is very nice with a small chip out at the top of the butt plate as you can see. Has the normal dings and scratches but NO cracks or other issues. Fits tight to the metal all around with no gaps as you can see. Very nice fitting wood. Never sanded on or messed with. This is a very nice un touched 1873 rifle in the right configuration. Getting harder to find and still be able to sell at a reasonable price. The mechanics are outstanding with strong springs through out and absolutely no issues. You will not be disappointed with this one. All of my antique rifles are in perfect operating condition and have been test fired by me. Of course I am not responsible for idiots that want to hand load hot rod ammo and thereby am in no way liable for injuries caused by shooting antique firearms. I am sorry I have to say this but in this world of sue happy freaks, I will start mentioning this in my descriptions.    Call 765-728-8049 or e-mail which is probably better with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. NO FFL needed. Hurry on this one !!!!!
