Includes Kopec letter (dated Nov 14, 2013 which states the following information:We have today examined your Colt "US" marked Single Action revolver for the purpose of authentication. This revolver #11758 was previously listed in our survey and falls between #11749 (a N.Y. Militia revolver) and #11777 ( a Cavalry revolver) in this database. Tis revolver was manufactured during 1874, however we have not made a determination weather this revolver was originally a military or commercially shipped example. Normall, these revolvers were manufactured under contract with the U.S. Government during this period and were ordnance sub-inspected by O.W. Ainsworth.Historically, we could not locate this revolver's serial number in the National Archives records available to us. This revolver's serial number falls between #11627 a revolver which had been issued to "Co. I, 22nd Infantry" as of March 18, 1889, and #11855, a revolver belonging to "Troop K, 8th Cavalry" as of October 26, 1892. Another earlier 8th Cavalry cited example #11416 is also listed. So, there is a possibility that the subject revolver if it were indeed a military example had been issued to the 8th Cavalry.This revolver has sustained the following observed modifications since leaving the supervision of the Ordnance Department:1. The barrel is a modern manufactured replacement. The barrel address is a facsimile, as well as the serial number and ordnance markings "A" and "P".2. The serial number "1758" as it appears on the cylinder as well as the ordnance markings "A" and "P" are facsimile markings.3. The letters "U.S." as well as the patent dates of the frame have been re-stamped. (note: round periods).4. The ejector rube is a conversion from a second style and the ejector head is a reproduction.5. The ordnance Sub-Inspector's initial "A" has been re-stamped throughout this entire revolver.6. The grips are modern made replacements, showing modification at the butt area.7. The external patina finish of this revolver has been artificially applied.8. The number "15" stamped on the left side of the grip strap is of unknown origin.9. The rear sight aperture has been squared.
