Description:
Serial #2671, .30-40 Krag, 29? barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some very minor freckling within the grooves. This is an 1894 dated rifle that has 80-85% of the original blue remaining on the barrel that blends smoothly with a slightly freckled plum-brown patina on the balance of the metal as well as some silvering and fading at the muzzle. The receiver has a mostly speckled gray patina with spots of mild freckling throughout, but heaviest on the tip of the magazine cut-off switch and on the magazine door as well. The bolt has a smooth, freckled gray patina with darker freckling on the handle and the extractor still has much of the original bright fire blue remaining under even light freckling throughout. The walnut stock and handguard have small handling marks and surface blemishes scattered throughout the new oil finish with a single with-the-grain crack at the front of the magazine on the left side and eight carved notches on the wrist, four on either side. The ramrod channel was filled during the conversion process and the cartouche is no longer legible. The stock compartment is empty but this is still a handsome early Krag modified to Spanish-American War specs. Antique
