Description:
NSN, .45 caliber, 3 1/4? superposed barrels with good, lightly pitted bores. This is a handsome little pistol that has an overall pewter gray patina speckled with mild dark freckling along the barrels and some pinprick pitting as well (heaviest towards the nipples at the breeches). The frame with central hammer has floral scroll engraving that carries over onto the barrels and has ?PARKINSON? in a riband on the left, ?DUBLIN? on the right. The barrels are swiveled by hand but with firm detents on either side of the axle allowing only a half turn in either direction (a nice feature that prevents loosening of the barrels). The hammer has a welded repair at the nose but the spur is original and the original engraving is still present. The smooth walnut, saw-handle grip is in very good condition with worn varnish along the sides and no evidence of any checkering. The barrel lock-up is still tight and the mechanism is fully functional. John Parkinson operated at Arran Quay in Dublin from 1824 ? 1846. This is a great little example of a rather scarce Irish-made, saw-handled percussion pistol and would make a nice addition to any collection. Antique
