This is a 1941 dated rifle that has matching numbers on the nosecap and bolt. The metal retains 85% plus of an armory re-applied bluish gray-black phosphate finish that has faded to gray at the muzzle, as well as along the high edges and projections, and also blended with a dark plum-brown patina on the balance, most noticeably on the charger bridge and on the unnumbered magazine. A small and unobtrusive import mark is present on the right side of the receiver. The wooden stock and handguards have been arsenal refinished to fine condition and have numerous small handling dings and minor surface blemishes as well as a large rack number on the underside of the forend behind the nosecap: “126” (this is repeated in white paint on the bolt). The left side of the buttstock also has a faint but still legible rack number as well: “153”. The brass buttplate has a darker brown-ochre patina and the stock compartment is empty. An original khaki canvassling is included. This is a fine late-war, armory refurbished SMLE overall.
