This rifle has the Model 1888 style wrap-around latches to better hold the ramrod-bayonet in position. The serial number, 518206, actually places it in the Model 1888 classification even though retaining the Model 1884 stamping on the breechblock, and was offically referred to as the Model 1888 by the government.
