Description:
NSN, .75 caliber, 39? barrel with a very good bore that has some moderate freckling towards the muzzle. This is a ?TOWER? marked musket in the original flint with ?(crown)/GR? cypher that has an overall mottled gray patina that blends with dark plum-brown throughout, heaviest at the breech of the barrel surrounding the touch hole which also has light-moderate pitting as well. Mottled freckling continues on the spoon-shaped pan, lockplate, and cock. The rounded brass ?S? sideplate, trigger guard, buttplate, nosecap, and ramrod pipes have a dark yellow-ochre patina throughout mixing with dark tarnish and scattered small peen marks and minor blemishes. The walnut stock has scattered, numerous small handling marks and blemishes under a fairly thick added oil finish as well as some minor chipping along the edges of the barrel channel on either side of the front swivel (heaviest on the right side). Further small chips are missing from the lock inletting, tip of the barrel tang, and there is a small ?DC? stamp on the left side just ahead of the wrist (Dominion of Canada). Also included is an original socket bayonet that has a 15? triangular blade with hollow ground back flutes, unfullered face, 2? shank, and 3 7/8? socket with ?L? mortise. The condition of the metal matches that of the musket and there are partially visible markings on the inner face of the blade and a partial unit marking on the socket (?- 6? or ?- 9?). Additionally, an original iron ramrod is included. This is a fine Canadian marked War of 1812 era ?Brown Bess? and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique
