Description:
#7724, Holland & Holland, 98 New Bond St., London: A Neat Top Lever Rebounding Hammer 450 3 1/4" BPE Double Rifle Made in 1883 for a Mr. Stirling that had an Extra Set of 360 2 1/4" Nitro Express Barrels Installed by H&H in 1912 and so lettered by the maker. The 450 barrels at 26" Extractor Dovetail Lump with 1 standing & 2 folding rear sights, The 360 barrels at 26" Extractor Chopper Lump with 1 standing & 2 folding rear sights, Both with double underlugs & double bite, The 450 barrels are BPE proved and the frame marked "Charge 4 Drams Case 3 1/4 Inches", The 360 barrels are Nitro Proved at 30 Cordite & 300 grain bullet, Articulated front trigger, Lever forend release, Pistol grip stock with a horn grip cap, 15 3/16" LOP over a removable 1 1/4" leather pad, 7 lbs. 12 oz. with the 450 barrels and 7 lbs. 15 oz. with the 360 barrels, Border engraving with nice patina on the frame, Very solid wood both front & back, No sling eyes, No primer burn at the striker holes and it remains tight to the face with both barrels. The strong news here is the bore condition of both sets of barrels, the 450's are excellent with square rifling throat to muzzle and the 360's are as new. The gun is cased in a vintage leather trunk for both barrels that I am sure was added when the 360 barrels meet the 450 barrels, it has the original trade label that remains in very nice condition. The 450 shot very well with 40 grains of IMR 4759, Fed. 215 primer, dacron filler and Hornady .458-350 grain 1/2-jacket bullets at 1785 fps. The 360 Nitro has Bertram cases available and .365 & .366 caliber 9.3 bullets can be bought everywhere including Starbucks. This is damn solid mechanics in two fun cartridges that has deer and boar written all over the gun.
