Description:
Manufactured in December 1895. A good example of the Winchester Model 1885 "Special Single-Shot" Oct. 32" #4 barrel, xxx fancy wood (so marked on the side of the lower tang)checkered pistol grip stock, Winchester palm rest, Winchester vernier tang sight and Winchester adjustable front sight. Excellent antique condition. Stock has the usual small dents and scratches. Case color is still visible but quite faded. Blue shows wear on corners of the octagon barrel. Excellent mechanical condition--everything works as it should! Even better, it has an excellent bore! Barrel drilled and tapped for three scope blocks. The stock has two glued in chips at the end of the upper tang--they are sound but should be professionally repaired--see photos. Everything is original excep tthe 32/40 barrel is a correct factory barrel but there is no record of it having been installed at the factory. According to Cody, the rifle was shipped with a number 4 barrel in 3a8-55. There are a couple of small tool marks on each side of the barrel just in front of the receiver which lead me to believe that the barrel was removed or replaced outside the Winchester factory.--see photos. Rifle will be shipped in a hard case. I am always happy to respond to questions or requests for additional photos.
