Description:
#4518, John Rigby & Co. 43 Sackville St. London W: A John Rigby Single Square Bridge Mauser Intermediate Action in 275 Rigby built in 1917, 24" barrel with a band island rear sight with 1 standing & 2 folding rear sights, Factory Rigby cocking piece peep sight and so marked, Front ramp, Barrel band sling eye, Waffenfabrik Mauser-Oberndorf Commercial action that carries the Mauser #57702, The action was built in 1912; The receiver, magazine box & stock all have matching Mauser serial numbers, The stock and action also has the correct Rigby serial numbers and the Mauser numbers, The barrel has nitro proof in London & Germany, Non-hinged floorplate, Quick detachable single lever H&H style scope mount installed in our shop by Master Gunmaker J.J. Perodeau, Mounted with a Leupold Alaskan 2.5 X scope, It has a pure classic Rigby pre-war stock, Point pattern checkering, 14 5/16" L.O.P. over a steel buttplate; 7 lbs. 12 oz. without the scope, 8 lbs. 10 oz. with the scope, A professional & fresh reblue that now is 98%, The stock reoiled & remains at 98%, The original checkering is at 94%, The bore is excellent to near excellent plus, Most of these 7x57's had the hell shot out of them but this one has lived a guarded and sheltered life. I have seen my fair share of the classic Rigby 275's but I don't know if I have seen many better than and as complete as this piece. ////////////////////////// This is all Commercial Mauser with a Single Square Bridge Intermediate action and then the British made a great open sighted game rifle to compliment this great piece of bolt rifle machinery. It most likely reached the shores of England as a barreled action as it has German & British proof marks. The Mauser Sporting Rifle and actions number about 127,000 and more than 82,000 were sold prior to WWI with a large percentage going to the British Gun Trade. From 1898 to 1912 Rigby held the exclusive British distributorship for Mauser sporting rifles, actions and barreled actions.
