Description:
Serial #278, .44 caliber, 7 1/2? octagonal barrel with a fair bore that has dark pitting within the grooves. This revolver has matching numbers on the frame, cylinder, and barrel with the metal retaining about 20% of the original bright blue, mostly on the frame around the cylinder. The balance of the metal has mottled freckling spots throughout with some additional light cleaning marks on the barrel and frame where the metal has turned dark pewter gray mixing with plum-brown. Additionally, pinprick pitting is present around the exterior of the cylinder and a small piece is missing from the nose of the triggerguard. The walnut grips were heavily sanded at some point and a new semi-gloss varnish added over very few handling marks or blemishes. The original U.S. inspector's cartouche is still barely visible on the left side nevertheless. The mechanism is not functional and the revolver rates fair condition overall, but is still rather good looking and would make a nice piece for display or project. Antique
