Description:
Serial #68774, .303 British, 26” barrel with a very good, fairly bright bore that has mild freckling within the grooves. This rifle has matching “R” marked Remington bolt and rear sight with the metal retaining traces of the original blue finish on a few protected areas and on the bolt. The balance of the metal has a darkly mottled patina with even, light freckling throughout, and the commercial Birmingham proofs are still legible on the receiver next to the “RE (in oval)” maker mark. A small and unobtrusive import mark is present on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the nosecap. The “W” marked, Winchester-made walnut U.S. Model 1917 stock and handguard have numerous small scattered handling marks in the otherwise excellent reapplied varnish finish, and there are two well done repairs to the wood: one on the top of the handguard; and one on the right side of the receiver that has a straight, hairline crack running forward from the border. This is a very good example of a reworked Pattern 14 and is still a handsome rifle overall. FFL or C&R
