Description:
S# 1116, 38 Ex. Long Ballard, 26 1/8 inch barrel, antique excellent bore. This rifle was built from the 1870's to about 1895 and remains in excellent condition with 85% barrel blue showing scattered specks of staining and light handling marks. Hammer shows vivid fire blue on sides and back, top shows traces of blue with developing brown patina. Frame shows well over 95% milky aged nickel, triggerguard retains about 80% . Butplate shows strong traces of nickel under a brown patina. Wood is sound with over 90% original varnish finish. Left side shows age checks in two areas of fancy grain. Bore is bright with sharp rifling and a few small areas of erosion in front of chamber. The action was altered from center fire to CF/RF convertible long ago by an accomplished craftsman who added a rimfire hole and altered the firing pin to fit either CF or RF hole. This is done by removing original bushing in frame and fitting pin into desired hole. Frame was only altered with addition of rimfire pin hole. Barrel wears original Stevens sights, rear slot is very close to breech. A very fine and desirable Stevens No 3 Tip up Rifle in Excellent Condition. Included are 39 brass cases made up from .357 Rem Max. Antique
