Description:
This is a roughly half-scale version of a British 12-Pounder Coehorn Mortar that has an 11 1/4" long, slightly bell-shaped bronze tube with 3 5/8" bore (92mm; approx. 6-Pounder). The metal has a dull but attractive yellow-ochre patina throughout with mild green verdigris visible within the bore. The tube rests on a rectangular wooden base that measures 19 1/2" x 8 3/4" x 4 1/2" with large Broad Arrows on the barrel rest and behind the trunnions. The black metal fittings and furniture are in excellent, little-used condition and a replica, non-metal spherical "shell" is included (the inert "fuze" has fallen into the shell cavity). This is a splendid firing replica of a Coehorn mortar and would make a great decorative piece for a gunroom or study. Antique
