Description:
This JP Sauer Royal, serial number 20918, was manufactured in 1955.  It has 28” barrels with 2-3/4” chambers.  The Greener cross bolt, side clips, and scalloped receiver are indicators of the high quality of this Royal model, and add to the appearance.  The engraving on the receiver is well defined, and the lettering on the barrels is crisp and raised to the touch.  The European walnut wood is attractive and the checkering sharp and deep.  The beavertail forearm, something unusual on German guns, is stunning.

The water table identifies the chokes as Half Full and Full; the precise constrictions are .025 and .035.  The wall thickness (top/side/bottom) for the right barrel at 9” from muzzle is 050/.049/.049 and at the middle of the barrel is .049/.045/.045; the left barrel is .048/.046/.045 and .046/.043/.042, respectively.  The gun locks up tight and on face; the top lever returns to the right of center.  The bores are bright.  All serial numbers match.

The gun weighs 6 lb 12 oz.  Length of pull from the front trigger to the end of the original Sauer butt plate is 14-1/2 inches.  The drop at the comb is 1-3/4” and at the heel 2-3/4”.  At some time in the gun’s past, a sling swivel mounted on the lower rib of the barrel was removed and holes plugged.  The gun is properly refurbished, including rebluing the barrels using the Belgian blue process and refreshing the wood using a stock oil finish.  If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call the seller 703-625-4830.

The seller will ship this gun in a hard case.  The inspection period is 7 days from receipt by buyer.  Seller has fired this shotgun on a multiple occasions using standard factory 2-3/4” target loads.  However, as for any vintage shotgun it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by a professional gunsmith before firing.  The gun carries a 30-day warrantee, during which the seller will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and the return shipping cost.
