UNFIRED SMITH & WESSON U.S. CAVALRY SECOND MODEL SCHOFIELD REVOLVER DATED 1876. Early production Second model serial numbered in the 49xx range. .45 S&W Schofield caliber with 7” barrel. Brilliant and 100% original and all matching and correct. Appears unfired with mint bore and chambers. Has nearly all the original bright blue finish (95%) with the balance evenly mixed dark patina. Hammer and trigger guard with 90% original case hardening. Even the screws and trigger have their original bright blue finish. Mint original grips with perfect cartouches and dated “1876”. Butt stamped “US” with the serial number. Nearly all these early Second Model Schofields went to the 4th , 9th and 10th U.S. Cavalry Regiments stationed at Forts in the Southwest while engaged with the Kiowas and Comanches, as well as various bands of Apaches.
