CALIBER REVOLVER SERIAL # 176. Less than a few hundred made on a contract for 10,000 due to Egypt’s default on payment for Rolling Block rifles already delivered by Remington. Only a small number known and almost all found is the U.S. indicating these were never shipped but sold here. However it is interesting to note that the inspector who's initials are within the cartouche on the left grip is U.S. Navy Commander Frederick Rodgers who was a U.S. Inspector at Remington. It may be that these revolvers were sold after the default to the U.S. Government. Very good overall with the exception of the lanyard ring which has been removed. Very pleasing dark patina mixed with traces of blue. Egyptian Contract “Star” stamped on left side of barrel. Cylinder stamped with the letter “R” between two of the stops. Metal shows light wear and barrel address is only partially visible. Excellent walnut grips with “FR” oval inspector’s cartouche on the left flat also denoting Egyptian Contract production. Working order with good bore and chambers. 100% original and seldom seen for sale. SOLD Antique: Yes |
