Description:
COLT S.A. U.S. ARTILLERY SERIES #42150 Colt Single Action, U.S. issued Artillery series, .45 caliber revolver with 5 ½” barrel showing full military inspections with U.S. marked frame, serial number 42150. The barrel is an artillery replacement barrel with “Renaldo A. Carr” inspection and “P” proof. The frame shows early three line patent dates and U.S. from early series cavalry. The cylinder shows “R.A.C.” on the back and also probably an arsenal replacement with the barrel. The trigger guard is stamped 119633 with no inspection and the back strap is number 120763 also not showing inspection. The grips show a 1903 cartouche on the right side with large “R.A.C.” and also are “R.A.C.” stamped on the bottom of each grip. The ejector rod housing is an early military type with correct rod and spring. This artillery remains in near fine original condition with 90% to 95% bright blue on the barrel showing a few minor storage marks and some minimal beginning age. The ejector Rod housing shows 90%-95% blue with some slight wear at the edges. The cylinder shows 90%-95% bright original blue with minor scratches and normal aging. The frame shows 85% original case hardened colors that are drifting slightly on the left and very good rainbow hues on the right side. The hammer shows 80%-90% original case hardening that is still very colorful. The straps show 70% blue with some marks on the butt strap and trigger guard. The grips are fine with great cartouches and small losses at the toe. The screws and small parts show bright original blue. The interior is near excellent with a fine bore. A strong 9+ on a 1-10 scale. From the premier Robert Hoelscher collection. Excellent plus overall, about as good as you will find.
